On New York Times' so-called Reading Crisis

The hoopla: According to A.O. Scott’s recent essay in The New York Times, we are in the throes of a “reading crisis.”

What’s ironic: A big flashy essay bemoaning the status of reading in our culture falls apart under *checks notes* a close reading. Call me crazy, but the best argument for coherence is rarely incoherence.
